Over a century ago, members of Chicago’s Norwegian-American community founded the Norwegian Old People’s Home. In 1896, the Norwood Park Hotel, located in the Norwood Park area of Chicago, was selected to provide a place for the elderly to age in comfort and dignity in a faith-affirming setting. As the Norwegian Old People’s Home evolved, so did its place in the neighborhood, and it eventually became known as Norwood Crossing. Norwood has always operated as a not-for-profit organization, channeling resources back to our residents.
Norwood Crossing became one of the first Continuing Care Retirement Communities, offering a broad array of services and facilities dedicated to serving seniors and their families. Building on this 130 year tradition of providing service, today Norwood has adopted a broader and more ambitious vision: to age in comfort and dignity in a faith affirming setting.
We believe that the experience and unique skills of Norwood Life Association, including a Board with over 100 years of accomplished and dedicated service in rural, urban, and suburban communities nationwide has uniquely prepared us for our mission of care and service.
